A treasure hunter, by great hood luck, discovered
an old parchment which he thought had belonged to the famous pirate Redbeard.
The parchment described the location of a buried treasure:
"On this island there are only two trees, A and B, and
a gallows, where I hanged a dozen of my mutinous crew. I walked from the
gallows towards tree A, counting my steps. At tree A I turned 90 degrees
to the left and then walked forward the same number of steps. At the point
where I stopped I drive a spike into the ground. Then I returned to the gallows
and walked in a straight line, counting my steps, to tree B. When I reached
tree B, I turned 90 degrees to the right and took the same number of steps
forward, placing another spike at the point where I stopped. At the point
exactly halfway between the spikes I buried my treasure."
However, when the treasure hunter reached the island
he discovered that there was no trace of the gallows. Is there any way he
can still get to the treasure?
